4 years ago, I met Adam, I prefer to tell this story to people like he stalked me lol, he’ll laugh and tell me to shut up but anyway he did.
I had been in Newtownards for my day job and had gone to the bar where Adam worked for my lunch. Later in the week I got a call from a colleague telling me Adam had been asking about me… it seems he liked what he saw!! He asked that I make contact, so I did.
Listening to Adam talk about the product, how he made it, the scents and his vision for the label… I started to share his enthusiasm. He asked me to be part of a photoshoot because I had the look he wanted. I jumped at my first opportunity to be a male (beard) model… I just hoped he wasn’t taking me to a dodgy warehouse to take photos for his own collection.
Excited for the big photoshoot day, it was scheduled for 26/1/16. I was mentally prepared, knew my poses, what I was gonna wear and had ventured the day before to get my beard and hair trimmed to perfection – I was going to look sharp! Nothing was going to get in my way… except… my wife. She decided to deliver our son a week early. Right on the day of my big beard modelling break. Here I found myself stood at the side of the hospital bed telling her how great she was and beaming over my beautiful son all I could think of was ‘when should I mention this photoshoot’.
Thankfully, people started to flock to admire my new born baby boy and I thought ‘now’s my chance’. Casually dropping it in to the conversation “I just remembered ‘aye, I’m meant to be doing that beard modelling thing tonight.’ Sure enough she’s a champ for the 2nd time that day!! She says ‘sure you’re not much use to me now – head on and do your big beardy shoot’. I was there, poised in front of the camera – still in my work uniform – before my wife had changed a nappy.
It took off from there but what an intro to Urban Tonic.
